Pirates (temporarily) silenced

Humboldt’s pirate radio studio (Humboldt Free Radio Alliance 99.9 FM) received a visit at its undisclosed location from two Federal Communications Commission officers Sunday evening at about 6:30 p.m. The officers reportedly said they were acting on a citizen complaint about the low-watt, unlicensed radio station. HRFA volunteers immediately shut down their transmission. While no charges were filed, the officers left paperwork requiring the pirate radio station to cease broadcasting.

“We’re off the air, but we’re definitely not gone,” HFRA deejay Francois stated. Francois indicated that HFRA would be offline “for a couple weeks” before retransmitting from the 99.9 FM frequency.
