Still looking for a New Year’s Resolution?

Go to at least one live music show per month. Take a chance on a genre outside your comfort zone (check the Scene section for recommendations!).

Make Arts!Arcata a regular outing.

Donate to your public radio stations, KMUD 88.3 FM or KHSU 90.5 FM.

Buy at least one piece of locally produced artwork this year.

Attend at least three Dell’Arte productions.

Join Humboldt Folklife Society.

Show up at the Arcata Playhouse for something, anything, that the folks there put on (

Take a stand against bad art by supporting good art, either by attendance or purchase – or both.

Take advantage of a low cost high school theatre or music performance – you might be surprised at how talented the kids are.

Donate to Arts in the Afternoon through the Arcata Recreation Division.

Treat a friend who can’t afford it to a show at the Van Duzer.

Try your own hand at art with found objects.

Drop into the Fire Arts Center’s “Creating Tumblers and Mugs” class – it’s ongoing and free! Show up at the South G Street location on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

DANCE! New World Ballet offers beginning classes for all ages. Try hip hop! NWB at (707) 822-4947.

Sign yourself and your partner up for flamenco through Center Activities –(707) 826-3731.

Pick up a sketchbook and soft pencil at the Art Center; next time you draw, draw what you see, not what you think something is supposed to look like.

Take a life drawing class from Joyce Jonté, (707) 822-6102.

Become a regular at open mics.
