“Stonewall” weekend at Aunty Mo’s

EUREKA – The Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are proud to present the first annual “Stonewall Prom” on Saturday, June 28 for those 21 and over at Aunty Mo’s Lounge in Eureka.Come out, come out where ever you are

Come out and take that special someone to the prom. Celebrate the 39th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (the beginning of the modern Gay Rights Movement) and the historical California Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage within California.

This event will honor and celebrate the birth of the Gay Rights Movement that began as a riot on June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn bar in New York City following police harassment. The “Stonewall Riots” mark the beginning of the modern Gay Rights Movement. Communities around the world now celebrate annually with Gay Pride Parades and Festivals. Come learn more about the events that lead up to this explosive moment in history.

“The events of the Stonewall riots changed the world. Who knew that 39 years ago a small handful of our brothers and sisters would start a revolution that has rippled through time. I feel honor and respect for the brave ones that paved our way,” organizer John York said.

Tie the knot

Thinking of getting married or would like to renew your vows? Take the plunge on the anniversary of Stonewall. Join other couples as they tie the knot. Marriage Equality will be organizing weddings between 7 and 9 p.m. A photographer will be available to capture that special moment. Be sure to pick up your marriage license ahead of time available at the County Recorders Office, (707) 445-7593. At 10 p.m., let DJ Blancatron ( fill your head with the beat and dance the rest of the night away.

Cover for the event is $5 and proceeds benefit Humboldt Pride, Marriage Equality and Eureka Sisters.

Friday follies

Warm up for the Stonewall Prom with The Ravens, Weepel and Sick Bitch the night before, Friday, June 27. Cover is $5 cover, and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. Show is 21 and over.

‘Riots to Revolution’

Marriage Equality, Humboldt Pride and the Eureka Sister of Perpetual Indulgence have created a Queer History Exhibit at Aunty Mo’s Lounge. Stonewall…Riots to Revolution is a comprehensive multi-media presentation created by a local queer historian Erin Stevenson that documents the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York. The exhibit continues through the month of June.
