Arcata Eye Scene

A-town art, music, theatre. Mostly music. Updated Wednesdays.

To go or not to go?

Wrong play, I know, but Shake the Bard‘s continuing Othello at the Arcata Playhouse, and I’d like to go. I’d like to take the whole family, in fact – but I blew my weekend cash at The Sushi Spot Thursday afternoon during the snowboarding extravaganza. Highly yummy, but the price of the meal for four (albeit quite hungry) exceeded the price of the play for five. Nourishment for the body or the soul? What to do?

OTHELLO Treachery comes to the Arcata Playhouse this fall as Shake the Bard Theatre Company produces Othello; Moor of Venice. The play runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 25 at 8 p.m., with matinee performances on Sundays, Nov. 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. There is no performance on Thanksgiving. Tickets are $10 general and $8 for students and seniors. Group rates are available for 10 or more. (707) 496-4056, shakethebard.com.

Jabari, who plays O, is really good – try to make it.
You might be able to wrangle a couple of journalistic comps to reduce the cost impact…

I’m still hoping to see it this weekend. As far as the cost factor, the family’s the problem! If I bring the kids along, the expense goes up considerably. Last night, for example, seeing Alastair Roberts at Muddy’s cost about $30 after all the hot chocolates were paid for.

But having them share these experiences is such a great thing. If only they shared the expenses, too…
