Zap Mama
CenterArts presents the return of Zap Mama on Friday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. in HSU’s Van Duzer Theatre. There’s an alluring place where the mystique of the African continent meets the complexity of the Western world. It’s a place where rhythm and beauty, myth and melody, history and harmony converge. It’s a place where anything is possible. For more than 15 years, the musical entity known as Zap Mama has stood at that crossroads.

Marie Daulne, the founder and fronting member of Zap Mama, has lived a life that rivals Homer’s Odyssey. Born in the Congo, but raised in Belgium, Marie spends her life crossing continents and winning the hearts of thousands of fans, while introducing her musical heritage to the world and uniting musical cultures through the wonders of voice, music and dynamic performance. In addition to her role as an artist and performer, she has devoted much of her time and energy in working to protect human rights and fight global poverty with organizations such as Amnesty International, Médicins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), CARE and the United Nations. Tickets are $35 general, $33 senior/child, $25 HSU students and available at the University Ticket Office, the Works and The Metro. For more information and credit card orders, call CenterArts at (707) 826-3928.
